The second Donovan book is about cousin Sebastian Donovan. His gift is sight and he helps the police find the missing and the murdered. He has just returned from a particularly harrowing time where he helps find a serial killer. He is approached by a young mother who son is stolen from his playpen. He doesn't want to help because he's exhausted from his most recent case but can't help but agree. The mother is being helped by a friend who is a PI, Mary Ellen Sutherland. She's very skeptical but agrees to work with Sebastian because she will do anything to get the little boy back. There is an attraction between the two Mel is freaked by the whole thing but does come to understand Sebastian's power. There is a successful to the case in more than one way. I enjoyed this novel and will definitely finish the series.
Old Nora Roberts books are still often better than new authors latest works. This was all right. I can see the seeds of the In Death series in it though.
Entranced really improved on Captivated>, because it both has a plot and improved character development.
In basically the exact same number of pages, Entranced resolves two mysteries and gets the couple together, which means that, good news, there's no time for massive misunderstandings or fear of commitment flailing. Mel's got some fear of commitment, but it resolves itself without really being an issue.
I can't say I felt particularly invested in the resolution of the mystery, but I did like that it gave the characters something to do, and it was fun to watch them work. I will say that Sebastian's powers sure seem to work awfully conveniently, with him only ever seeing the next step, so they have to proceed slowly. But, hey, since I mostly cared about watching the ship play out, that gives you a bunch of different backdrops for that. Including a circumstance where they have to pretend to be married, which is such a great trope.
Quite fun, as long as you don't mind the convenience of Sebastian's psychic powers.
