I feel like the format of novella just didn't work with this story. That's not the only issue, but I found it hard to get past. We don't really get any character backgrounds.

The vamp character kidnaps the protagonist and claims it to be for her own good. There is no logical reason for that at all. Just some vague "there's monsters"?? Buddy,,, really,,,,??

The protagonist's best friend kept huge life info from her and they never talk about it once the truth comes out. It's not that I don't understand why that info either was kept from her or didn't come up... But to completely ignore it afterward and act like everything is normal and talk about romantic interests in a joking way or whatever is... weird.

There's so many plot holes and weird things here and there that just kind of jump in to explain things and we're just supposed to go along with it? Idk.

It feels like a story that is only a novella because the substance was vacuum sucked out of it. And what was left was all these loose ends that didn't even need to be there.

To answer as to why this is categorized as LGBTQ+ in some areas: the vamp character is mentioned to have a history being in love with a man and at another point someone with a less masculine name. He's also the protagonist's love interest. He is probably bi or pan. (No label is mentioned.)

Something that I did appreciate: it's written in first person present tense. This is always my own default way of writing fiction for some reason and it's nice to see stories that do that.
