First and foremost this book has mentions of SA.

The story follows along the murder of a magical bird and a sister trying to clear her family name.

This was an easy, yet heavy read and I’m glad I picked it up. The magical realism didn’t take away from the storyline and the plot almost felt real.

Wow this was a beautifully told story about a very serious topic. The voice of the story didn't feel quite right to me (a bit young at times, especially in the beginning), which is why I didn't absolutely love this. But the whole atmosphere of the book, the vibes of the island, were all perfect. Also, I hate when there are only two queer characters in a book and of course they fall in love - this one had many sapphic characters (even though they weren't all necessarily main characters) so it passes in that context as well!
