I'm listing this as a kindle freebie because you can read it here.

Shout to C who told me to read this.

My preferred state is reading. I share a house. My bedroom is library with a place to sleep.

Books are my safe place. Always have been.

Alix E. Harrow's brilliant, wonderful, glorious, heart breaking short story is about the power of books and the ability books have to move us and save us.

And how forcing people to read X is the wrong way to go.

Just read it, okay?

Review for A Witch’s Guide to Escape: A Practical Compendium of Portal Fantasies by Alix E. Harrow, 4.900 words, ~11 pages, ★★★★★

You’d think it would make us happy when a kid checks out the same book a zillion times in a row, but actually it just keeps us up at night.

Oh, I love that the books have feelings! A smug book, how great is that?

“oh, Tolkien, you have so much to account for“
Lol!

This was absolutely delightful. I love it! Fabulous! I cried! All the stars!

Read Alix E. Harrow's A Witch’s Guide to Escape: A Practical Compendium of Portal Fantasies. It was AMAZING.

What would I be, cut off from the orderly world of words and their readers, from the peaceful Ouroboran cycle of story-telling and story-eating?

AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING.

As a lover of libraries, I felt this story in my bones. Go read now.

A lush little story about the power of books (and librarians). Really loving everything I've ever read from the author. Story can be found free here: https://www.apex-magazine.com/a-witchs-guide-to-escape-a-practical-compendium-of-portal-fantasies

Read ”A Witch's Guide to Escape: A Practical Compendium of Portal Fantasies” by Alix E. Harrow included in this issue

A nicely done story about the importance of fiction, libraries, and librarians (who are, naturally, witches), however built on a tired white saviour fantasy.
