It’s still the Epic of Gilgamesh but I liked this edition more. It felt more historical because of the way it was translated with gaps to represent places where the original tablets are damaged.

A quién no le va a gustar la épica más antigua de la que tenemos constancia y primer texto existencialista que conocemos, a ver, a quién?

I remember learning about the Epic of Gilgamesh multiple times throughout school but for some reason never read it in full until now.

I think that reading the poem itself is very important for anyone who cares about literature, but also knowing the history revolving around this epic, both about it’s historical incarnations as well as all the research that has brought it back to life for the past few modern centuries, is vital.

The version of the book I read illustrates it beautifully, with absolutely fascinating essays and notes about the ancient histories relevant to this text as well as the work put into uncovering and translating this poem. Of course, the specific version I read is about 50% essays and notes, so I would recommend it mainly for those deeply interested in the historical or linguistic aspects.

The Epic itself is an intriguing read, with timeless themes about human behaviors and morality, intertwined with fascinating mythology. I am definitely now more inspired to do even more of a deep dive into the subject of this poem, and maybe check out other books about it.
