I was familiar with Chamber’s work largely thanks to the influences he had on Lovecraft and other weird fiction, and because of that, I think I had different expectations for what these stories would be going into it. The first four stories scratch that weird fiction itch though in a much more reserved sort of way.

You can tell that it is more than 100 years old, particularly when it comes to the portrayal of women. Occasionally hard to get through but interesting as a study on the stories it inspired.
