the worst crime in this book was how boring it was.
also, what the fuck was that final reveal.

I don't think I am the intended audience for this book. It falls into the bro lit category with Clockwork Orange. Bank's did capture the weird ritualistic nature of kids/teens well.
For a short book, it was hard to get into it and felt slow.
I can see how the twist would have been shocking at the time but it hasn't aged well.

This was extremely easy and quick book to read - the writing was somewhat simplistic which gave the book a very fast-paced feel. I liked how the voice of the main character was developed, it really felt like you were getting into his head and got to understand the thought processes that led him to kill people/animals. I really liked the majority of it until I got towards the end. The ~plot twist~ just wasn't that shocking and felt almost random; without enough psychological reasoning as to why it made Frank act the way he was - it was just kind of thrown in and then the book ended. I think if it didn't have the shock at the end I would have given the book 3 or 4 stars.

A lot of animal torture that really adds nothing to a boring and weird story.

A somewhat disturbing read.
The main character Frank is one of the most unlikable POV characters I've come across.
Still it is very well written and has a some interesting plot twists.
