Not really sure how to feel about this one - some good depictions of gruesome horror scenes but not a fan of the ending twist. I guess it speaks to the age of the book as well, but this felt so jumbled together.

Believe me when I say that I'm not a fan of the phrase "inviting you into their world", but here I feel there is no better descriptor.
Banks' remarkable debut is riddled with impossibly clever passages, incredibly vivid imagery and the most baffling depictions of horror. Not once does the reader feel detached from the sick mind of Frank Cauldhame in any way - his every move is explored in quick-fashioned yet intricate detail.
An all-encompassing sensory read.

I had to be honest with myself that I had not been getting anything out of reading this and I had been forcing myself to carry on and finish it to lead the twist, especially with it being such a short book that at times was going down quite quickly, but also seemed to drag on and take forever. The simple fact is I don't care about the twist or about this book in the slightest.
Your mileage may well vary as the response seems to strongly divided. For me this read like decently-written, but needlessly edgelord pointlessness. I'm all for the joys of subjectivity and if this is your cup of tea I love that for you. Personally, I don't really find anything transgressive or interesting about seemingly trying to shocking and gross to the it's own sake.
This has made me think twice about whether I want to read dead Air or not.

- Crazy ending which I didn't see coming at all. It explained a lot.
- Beautifully written

a bit slow for me but I am going to come back to this book when i'm in a better mood for it. I just have other books and genres that are more appealing for me right now.

I was hoping for a good scary book. But I cannot tolerate nor do I enjoy reading about animal cruelty, abuse, torture in any form.

Not actually too bad of a book, although the second chapter was quite boring and pointless. Quite a few shocks and twists in the plot later on that made it very enjoyable.
