Had some good moments, the way the characters developed over the course of the book was nice to see although they could be infuriating at times and somewhat unlovable. The chapters are shared out between 3 characters and I thought they’d cross over more which might have made it more interesting for me but just felt a little unnecessary have the story be from three perspectives, it didn’t really add much overall. Felt the ending was a little rushed with the way each characters stories wrapped up. I don’t really know what I was expecting going in to this book but I can’t help feeling a little underwhelmed/ disappointed coming out of it.

Well, we’ll, well. What a book! Had me in tears at the end. It was a journey with Dan, George and Lizzie. Atticus has to be my favorite character. Lizzie’s character was something, while George stayed as the old despicable man he was. Betty saw the good in somehow though🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♀️ Dan was kind of relatable but at some points he did get on my nerves, haha. Overall, ⭐️⭐️ stars.

This book was emotionally devastating!!! I have never cried so many times when reading a book before. This novel perfectly captures the reality of humans, all their ugly parts. With a focus on trying to cope with loss and mental illness and how the companionship of a dog and the responsibility of owning a pet heals you and forces you to get better and keep on going. I cannot reccomend this book enough and is definitely my book of the year so far! Please read content warnings before deciding to pursue this book as it deals with a lot of heavy and potentially triggering themes. And have tissues handy!

This book had me weeping at the end so be warned you'll cry or I'm a big baby. I came across this book at a dog display at my local library and fell in love with the cover. This is a story with 3 main characters and each have their own issues they're dealing with. Dogs play a role in every story and it's wonderful. George is a grumpy old man that is now a widow. He's an awful man and is angry at everyone but you slowly see serious changes in his life and actions. It was sad but so cleverly written. Dan is a therapist with a wonderful dog companion. He meets another man named Atticus and his life is forever changed. This story in particular broke me. Lizzie is a woman living in a woman's shelter with her son and her story was not what I expected at all. Waller took me on a serious ride of emotions. I was frustrated, sad, in love, grieving, proud...all in one book.  Waller did an excellent job on the pace of the stories while also discussing difficult topics. I did not like some of the endings to certain stories but that is life. And life never goes as planned.
