This is a chilling middle-grade novel about a young boy who is approached by wasps who provide a solution for his ailing baby brother's condition. It brings to mind novels like Coraline, and has enough scares and mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat 🐝🐝🐝

This was such a good book! I really wasn't expecting to be so genuinely scared from a children's book, but I was, and I love to be terrified while reading. Just wonderful.

What a weird book! Suspense for the children, not a bad message if you squint (the book is much more about the plot, no heavy handed lesson for the kiddos). I had read this one because it was a book my nephew had to read for school, however, I briefly forgot it was a kids book and was thinking the horrendous tragic endings of Life of Pi/Shutter Island for some reason: the kid with prior delusions convinced he must save his baby brother from an improbable swarm of hornets that want to swap in a changeling and was pursuing him inside his home, then the wakes up afterward in a padded room- I was definitely thinking this kid went crazy and accidentally killed his brother (which is ridiculous, because this is a kids book and that wouldn’t happen in a kids book) but... honesty, the plot is so bonkers, it didn’t seem completely outside the realm of possibility. Which is a good level of suspense. Likely a good book to drawl in the attention of the kids. Warning, mildly scary for the younger-aged and the boy does defeat the insect-monster by chopping its head off. Reminds me vaguely of Coraline (both are creepy, but Coraline is much much more creepy and nightmarish where this book is like a scary campfire story).

Great book read it in a day. It’s a good way to understand the emotions of a teen who feels like their parents don’t care. It would be a great book to help teens deal with their emotions that may be feeling with a new baby around

'They appeared in my dreams the tenth night after the baby was born.'

Something is wrong with Steve's baby brother. (An unspecified congenital heart thing). One day, a large wasp nest appears outside the baby's window, and the Queen starts communicating to Steve, offering to help. The form that 'help' takes is creepy and monstrous and has dark fanatsy vibes.

'“We’ve come because of the baby,” she said. “We’ve come to help.”'

Totally creepy. Anyone who has ever had a wasps nest in their house may freak out!!

Not usually one for horror, I wasn't thrilled to read this book.

That being said, yikes! What a gripping thriller.

Just creepy enough to engage the most reluctant of readers. Solid characters and wonderful pacing. I read through this in just a few hours.
