I found this book because of the movie trailer, though I have not watched the movie. Purely based on the trailer, it seems as though the plot diverts from that of the book, in case you're deciding between the two.

The Marsh King's Daughter is an example of an author creating a main character whose state of mind is not at all relatable (hopefully) to the audience, and yet we can understand her motivations and the path her life followed based on impossible choice after impossible choice. It is dark and twisted so that's your warning if gruesome books are not your thing.

Couldn't get through it. Didn't want the negative energy.

Update- July 19, 2024. Finished it on Julie's recommendation. Still didn't like the negativity. It was well written though.
