3.5 stars rounded down. I checked this book out a bit blindly after seeing the trailer for the movie and I was intrigued. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it takes place in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, which I really appreciated as a Michigander. The descriptive nature of the book was gorgeous. A lot of time was spent on flashbacks, and Helena as a child is a bit hard to feel empathy for. I wish it had been about 50/50, instead of about 80/20 between flashbacks and present day. This book also has lots of triggers and there's a dog that dies quite violently, so read at your own risk.

Such a great story.

Living in Michigan, the setting in the U.P. was spot-on. This was a great novel and once I started it, I whipped right through it. One of the best I've read this year.

This was the strangest book I've read in awhile. lol I can't even form a good review for it. I'm just kind of baffled by it. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either.

All I have to say is that I can't believe it took me this long to read this book. So good.

Absolutely wonderful story. Intense thriller. Started reading this as I prepared for a trip to Alaska so the fact it takes place in Michigan’s Upper peninsula was very interesting. I had no expectations for this book as I stumbled across it somewhere and took and chance and it did NOT disappoint! Highly recommend.

This was a true 3-star for me, I mostly picked it up because of the setting, it did not deliver on the suspense or thrills, but the story was interesting enough. More of a story about complicated family dynamics than anything else.

What a creepy page turner this was! If you like mystery and good old fashioned Grimm fairytale, this book is for you!

MUCH better than the movie. Don’t love the idea of 2 Brits playing Michigander. Much deeper characterization in the thriller-ish legend plot of Upper Peninsula Michigan
