I rate simply: 5 = liked it, 3 = meh, and 1 = didn't like it.
Great thriller! A very different perspective which I loved. I hope this will be a movie someday.
I finished this in three days. Great read. I had never thought about the perspective of the product of abduction. I found this book through a list of one book per state. This was Michigan.

Holy shit, this is amazing. So many elements of this book could have come across as hokey (e.g. Cousteau and Calypso), but the author performs some magic that makes it all work. Many times an author will write a long passage about how a character feels about something, with the same sentiment repeated ad nauseum in slightly new ways. In this book, however, moments are filled with many rich and different meanings. For instance, when the protagonist finds her mother's hidden Teen magazine: it's a reminder of who the mom was vs. what she's become (who knew that just the mention of Shannen Dougherty and Neil Patrick Harris could make me cry?), a glimpse into the unknown world, a clue about time and reality, and--finally--a weapon of control. I am so glad I stumbled upon this thriling and well crafted novel!

Loved it. Couldn't put it down. Would highly recommend.
Holy cow, my heart is still racing! This is easily one of the most suspenseful books I have read in a while. If you are a thrill seeker and love to be hanging on for dear life, look no further, you have found your next read. With that being said, I found the subject matter quite disturbing so I would not recommend this for the faint of heart. There is already a lot of buzz about this unique book and I predict it will be a favorite in the suspense genre. My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an advance review copy of this book.
I have just read the sampler of this and I cannot wait to read the entire thing!
Helena, the daughter of the Marsh King, the man who kidnapped and raped her mother and then kept them captive until she was 12, has begun to live her life with a husband and 2 children, making jams and jellies for the local stores and enjoying her family, when she hears a police bulletin saying that he's escaped, she put him in prison and now she will have to prepare herself for what is to come.
Does she have the strength to protect herself and her family? I am on the edge of my seat to find out!!
*Huge thanks to Karen Dionne, Little, Brown Book Group UK and NetGalley for this copy which I chose to read and all opinions are my own*
