The mystery in this book is a little different from Nancy's usual... here she starts off with a seemingly simple mystery in hand — is Asa Sidney, a relative of George and Bess, being taken care of in his inn (another inn? seriously??) as he is supposed to be? Of course, he isn't, and soon some of his other relatives are after him for his oodles of money.

I really liked The Sign of the Twisted Candles (Nancy Drew #9). This book had a lot of mystery in it and was very enjoyable and easy to read.

I liked this one a lot more than the previous in the series! The mystery was much better crafted, and the danger and intrigue were ramped up. Nancy found herself in a lot of tight spots this go around, but handled them with her usual flair. This was focused a lot more on family drama, but the setting of an old, ramshackle mansion full of twisted candles set the mood and tone, and made it a great way to start off spooky season. This might just be my favorite of the Nancy Drew books I've reread this year.

As far as Nancy Drew books go, I think this was my favorite so far. The mystery never seemed too far-fetched (until the end, but, well, it's a Nancy Drew book) and the little rift between Nancy and her friends made this one memorable.

This installment was heavier than previous ND mysteries. Someone dies, Nancy has a falling-out with her best friends, and the villains in this one are pretty brutal. Despite continuous warnings from the authorities, a handful of people scraping for a piece of a sizeable inheritance show blatant disregard for the law and things get crazy. Which, sadly, is not that far from the truth when situations like this happen. People really come out of the woodwork when someone with money dies. Anyway...this one goes above and beyond because the bad guys essentially know they are being tailed and still manage B&Es, thefts, kidnapping, and physical child abuse before being taken down. All in all, though, this was a pretty good one.

I liked how it wasn’t just a mystery and that everything wait until the very end like earlier books. But little things about their actions drove me crazy more than usual. Rehiding things in the house knowing that there are people trying to break in and find these same items. Etc etc.

4/2/20 age 9 - The story is about a young girl detective who solves mysteries with her father, Carson Drew, who just got a new case. I loved it! I liked Carol Wipple and the part where Carol says, "I don't like you as foster parents!" And later when her foster parents get arrested. (They were very mean!) I did not like the part where Mr. Asa Sidney died and her parents tried to kidnap her!
Words that describe this book: exciting, funny, sad, entertaining. It was sad when Mr. Asa Sidney died on the day after his 100th birthday.
I would recommend this book to William and Emma because they've read other Nancy Drew books.
