This was a cute book with a really interesting premise. Aside from the unique idea of European fairy godmothers traveling to Hollywood, nothing really stood out. I did really enjoy the 1920s Hollywood setting, but there needed to be more explanation of the European fairy godmothers part.

While the story follows Celeste trying to graduate to a higher level of the fairy godmothers, it seems very low stakes.  The reason she fled from Paris didn't really make sese until too far along in the novel for it to seem that pressing. The plot twist was very necessary because up until that point there wasn't anything especially intriguing going on.

Celeste was a little bland as a protagonist. I liked her enough, but there was nothing about her that particularly stood out. Her romance had some potential, but it didn't develop very much. To my understanding, this is supposed to be a series, so the romance might continue on into the next book and be more important.

I don’t read many fantasy books as I often get lost when the magic system isn’t explained well. However, I really liked how the magic was explained in this book, it had no assumed knowledge at the beginning which was great. I rarely read books based in the 20’s or in Hollywood so that was refreshing for me and I think it complemented the premise well.

One tiny critique I have is that Anaïs is mentioned throughout the book but I believe her first physical description is about 60% of the way through - this meant that my mental image was really different to the one the author described. Not the end of the world but it confused me a little as the description was practically the opposite to what I had imagined for the majority of the book!

Celeste is an initiate Fèe Guardienne, which is basically a Fairy Godmother. And she has to find her protégé and help them on their path to success. But when she is sent half way around the world to a place she has never been she is a little uneasy. Everything starts to go wrong and she does everything in her power to right the wrongs. But what happens when she runs out of power and has to save herself.

It took me about 6 chapters to really get the feels for this book but I am so glad I didnt put it down. I truly enjoyed the story and the characters. Though I felt the plot twist was predictable it didn't take away from the story in any fashion. If you're a fantasy reader that has been skeptical about picking up a historical fiction book I truly think this could be your vibe.

There is just enough of a historical element to be intriguing with a big dose of magic and mischief.
