(read for western lit class) homer why did you have to be so god damn repetitive. this book could’ve been 100 pages shorter

a slay. this book is so good but wow it’s long and boring at parts. hot take but i feel like you lose a lot of this book if you focus on hospitality, which is how it is mainly taught. is it a very important theme? yeah but there is SO much more. kinda reminds me of being taught the great gatsby and their eyes were watching god. we were forced to only care about one symbol and told that their is no room for interpretation in these books, which just ruins it. love book 17-24, those are wild. Even though i didn’t really like the penelopiad, i felt like it was a good criticism of odysseus and his actions. additionally woman and power is another great read to pair with this book. lattimore translation was fine
