TBH I often struggle with Historical Romances which is why I don't read a ton of them. I did really enjoy the conversations around women in science and art. Especially the discussions about what is 'fine art' *spoiler: whatever men say ~eye roll~
Those inclusions definitely helped keep my attention in this book beyond just the cute romance.

I’m not usually a romance kind of girl, but I do love a good f/f romance, especially during Pride month.  What I loved more were female scientists navigating men owned spaces in the Nineteenth Century.  Because representation matters including queer women in STEM.

The book was written well and most of it flew by, but I was here more for the science than the romance.

I loved that this was a sapphic historical romance that had the women fighting for progress and succeeding in small but significant ways. It genuinely felt like this could have been an accurate depiction of the time, not an embellishment or wishful thinking. I also loved the FMCs were so supportive of each other; honestly they felt like real women and not just characters.
My biggest complaint is that I just felt like the story went on too long and was pretty slow moving. It was hard for me to get through, but I do think it was more of a “me” issue and not the author. I’m not a big historical romance reader, which also could have been part of my issue.
Overall, not my favorite book, but it also hasn’t put me off of the author or historical romances in general.

I loved this couple. Queer, sciencey, and they make such excellent choices together. I love their growth. And there’s smut! What a cool book. It’s like historical fiction but mostly fiction.

Great palate cleanser. Cute romance, but unnecessary miscommunication trope for such a short book!
