The fact that there isn't another book yet should be a sin. So many questions unanswered. And for the reason that you should read this is because the FMC is such a badass and isn't afraid to shed some blood and the guys aren't as well.

Quotes:
“You don’t back down even when faced with something bigger or badder. You seem soft on the outside but actually have spikes. But I don’t mind getting pricked.” - Ezra
'He was the strategic type, the one who liked to pull the strings and watch from the front row. The type that when he snapped, everything would burn with him. It was the look of a predator watching its prey as it plans the most painful of deaths. But death…I’d been there, and done that. Living was harder. And there was no point in living in fear. That wasn’t living.' - Micai
“Don’t wet yourself or run away crying when it gets bloody, Micai.” - Creed
'But blood doesn’t scare me, and I don’t run from fights.' Micai

I've been very intrigued by this book, both by the blurb and it's *super* high ratings on Amazon. I prefer paperbacks though so when I finally saw it available, I bought it right away and immediately read it!
I really enjoyed the story overall but there are a couple things that kept it from being a five star read for me. First, this is Isla's debut book and although it has very high ratings, it very much feels like a debut. That's not necessarily a bad thing,, I was just expecting a little more. I mean it has almost 8,000 ratings on amazon (at the time of this review) and a 4.8 rating! The book didn't feel as.. polished? or cohesive as I expected. I feel like we are kind of thrown into the world but are not told much about it. There's magic, witches, shifters, etc. but beyond that, I'm not really sure what the world is like. It almost feels like we're expected to already know? Or it's not super important so we're not told, which just feels convenient. Beyond the world building, I feel like we're also left in the dark about a lot of the characters, particularly the love interests. I feel like we don't really know them by the end beyond some superficial details. Same with her relationship with her sister and old friends. We're just told bare minimum and it left me feeling like I got half of a story. This is only the first book though so there's room for development. I don't know how many books are planned but I could see this being a longer series, at least a trilogy. I feel like we need at least that many books to do the story justice as there's so much left unsaid.
All that to say, this is a promising debut and I'm really looking forward to the next installment!
