*I would like to thank the author and Book Sirens for allowing me to read this book in return for a honest review.*

I thought the premise of this book was really good. I enjoy reading mafia romances that are a little on the darker side, but I also like when the female protagonist has a little more freedom. Jack, being who he is, is used to being in charge and enjoys the power that gives him. He uses his power and privilege to give Maeve an offer she can't refuse when she needs help to pay off her brother's debts.

Maeve comes from an background full of drug and alcohol abuse and has vowed to never do that to herself as well. Jack is the next in line to take over the family business and uses Maeve's background and lover for family against her to get what he wants, which is something I did not particularly care for. That aspect of novel did get better as the book when on, but it is still something that bothered me.

The angsty scenes of this book were really good, though the writing itself was quite choppy at parts and kind of hard to follow-- in my opinion. That did not alter the story, but it was something that I personally noticed.

I hope Jack and Maeve's relationship is expanded on in the next book. That is something that I believe this book is missing. I still would recommend this book to people, especially those who want to get into dark mafia romances!
adventurous dark emotional tense medium-paced

3.5 ⭐️

Maeve finds herself in a desperate situation and runs to Jack, someone from her past to help her out of it, but is she willing to pay the price?

It took me a bit to get into the story, but overall it was enjoyable, plenty of twists and angst.
dark fast-paced

Mafia Prince is my first Vi book & I need more of this series ASAP!! Jack is a King in training & he owns every piece of that title! He is a broody and dangerous alpha hole ;) but omg he has a heart of tarnished gold! He proves it with everything he does for Maeve {swoon}

Mafia Prince by Vi Carter is book 1 in the Young Irish Rebels series. This is a second generation mafia series. We met the parents in The Wild Irish series. Mafia Prince is Jack O’Reagan's story. He is the son of Liam & Svetlana (from Heartless) and heir to the East side of Ireland. He has been groomed since a child to take over the family business. Currently he is undergoing trials in prep to takeover as King from his dad. His legitimate business is a club called The Viper.

Maeve Reilly is trying to hold her family together while supporting them and going to school. Her father left when she was young. Her mother is a non functioning alcoholic and Declan, her brother is a drug addict. No matter what she loves her family and needs to take care of them. When a man called the Butcher shows up to collect money from Declan, the Butcher tells her if she can't pay her brother's debt he would make her work in his brothel to pay it off.

Fourteen years ago Maeve was best friends with Dana, Jack's younger sister. Jack picked on Maeve mercilessly, telling her she didn't belong and wasn't wanted around them. Now desperate for money she goes to her last resort, Jack O’Reagan's hoping he will give her a loan not a gift. Jack agrees easily. He has always liked Maeve and bullied her so she would never know has true feelings. His wicked plan is for her to live with him and gifting herself to him.

This is where the story really gets interesting. Jack's uncles and cousins are all involved in the family business and making life difficult for Jack. He is trying to prove his worth to his father to gain the crown while walking a fine line that isn't clearly defined.

The story is one of scheming, secrets and vengeance. The violence is such a part of their daily life that it is who they have become, the men they show the world. However Jack wants so much more from Maeve. Their relationship is so much back and forth, both worried about getting the heart ripped away. When they have a moment when they allow their true feelings to guide them, their relationship is so full heat, anger, jealousy and love.

The story is fast paced and full of surprises and twists, especially the second half of the book. I felt like I didn't breathe until the last page; it was so tense. Maeve's and Jack's love affair is not wine and roses. There will never be a white picket fence in their future but they figure out how at works for them. There are definitely triggers that may upset some so heed the warnings if this is you. Mafia Prince is quite a story, one full of suspense, love and action and one you should read.

Not my fav. Kinda slow

I hated Maeve. DNF 75%.

Her mother is an abusive addict and her brother is also an addict. Maeve comes home to a messy home (which she pays for and cleans) and her brother being beaten and her mother crying. Men say her brother owes them $12,000 and they have 24 hours to repay the debt or Maeve will work as a prostitute (raped) until the money is repaid. Her brother is high so he doesn't really do anything to get the $12,000, her mom doesn't care because it doesn't affect her.

Maeve runs to her friend Dana's older brother Jack (who used to be mean to her when she was a kid) and he agrees to give Maeve the money in return for her to spend one night with him. She agrees.

They are late returning the money and her brother was kidnapped, Maeve runs to the guys and is almost raped but then Jack comes in and kills the guy.

Maeve was so annoying. Rather than being mad at the people who she should have been pissed at (her mom and brother) she just runs back to them over and over and is mad at Jack. I get it, he's an asshole who bought her for a night. But, why was she in a position to sell herself? HER BROTHER. But no, he's an addict who doesn't really know what he's doing. He promised he'd get help only to then get high one last time in front of Maeve and yet he is still sick and needs her help.

This ruined the entire book. I hated Maeve. She kept fighting for people that didn't want help. Her brother was addicted for 10 years! She is dragging herself down.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and it is a dark Irish Mafia read that will have your emotions all over the place. Our two main characters have known each other since they were young kids. Our hero Jack is a man who is working hard at becoming the next King. When our heroine Maeve comes back into his life he sees an opportunity, and makes an offer she simply can not refuse. Watching these two realize they are perfect for each other was great. Jack going all ALPHA and basically telling Maeve she is staying was kinda hot! I love reading a good enemies to lovers and this book is just that. I did feel for Maeve she has had to deal with so much, and for the reality of some of what she thinks is true is heartbreaking.
There are many twist and turns in this book. Just when you think you have it figured out the author does an amazing job of throwing a wrench into what you think you may already know. This is a great start to a new series and I am looking forward just to see how some of deceit plays out.

Oooohh this book is too good for words. Irish mafia Alpha male and cute girl equals great book. This fast paced book, which i could hardly put down, made me lose sleep. It was entertaining and right up my alley. I need more Maeve in my life.
