Good story, love the characters, Jack and Maeve's story was an interesting dark mafia romance, the audiobook narrated by Michael Gallagher and Sarah Jane Rose is a great way to enjoy this story, they did a good job portraying the characters and their voices where good. Editing and everything were done well. I think the audiobook will let you enjoy this story more than just reading it.

Nando’s Spice Rating: Medium

TW: Attempted Rape (not by H)
I quite enjoyed this book and think it was a great introduction to the world.

H is definitely the main pursuer in the relationship. I felt like you could easily see that he was in love with her but it took me a while to see it reciprocated on her end and even then it felt sort of surface level because it was so brief. Almost as if it was the start of their actual relationship as the book ended so kind of rushed.

I wish there was more Irish culture embedded in the story because I think that's one of the things this book was lacking. I also think this is a mafia so it could have been a bit darker and more gory(?) because the "mafia" part of this book isn't really a contender compared to other books out there. So I suppose this could be a good "light mafia" read, if you wanted to start getting into it but by no means is this the best one out there.

I will definitely continue with the series.

This enemies to lovers’ book had me on the edge the entire ride and I did not want it to end. Jack is the next in line to be the King to his family business and he was raised to be cruel, ruthless, and never show any weaknesses. Jack took all his training and father’s words to heart, he even tormented Maeve with his cruelty when they were younger. Now years later Maeve finds herself in need of Jack’s help even though she knows she shouldn’t ask because of his ruthlessness but she has no choice if she intends to save her family. Loyalty to family, ruthless acts, lies, betrayal, and finding yourself mixed in situations that are scary is not what Maeve intended yet here she is enduring it all and even if she doesn’t want to she is finding herself falling deeply for the guy that could destroy her. Jack has had an attraction to Maeve for years but knew she never belonged in his world so his cruel words were meant to deter her but now that she is asking for his help he can’t help but want to make her his permanently. This book was amazing with intense characters, action, steam, and I can’t wait to read more about the upcoming Irish mafia Kings like Shay.

Mafia Prince is the first book in the Young Irish Rebels series. This book is told from dual points of view from Jack and Maeve.

When Maeve's brother finds himself in a bit of trouble Maeve will do whatever she can to save her brother. She goes to her friend's brother who treated her like she was at the bottom of the earth when they were kids.

His price is for her to stay with him until something happens. However the longer she stays the more their feelings start to develop. Maeve's brother just keeps adding more debt, and her mother isn't helping matters. She's an alcoholic who chooses booze over her kids. Jack sees the situation Maeve is in and he doesn't want her returning there ever.

So much comes out of this story. A lot of twisted things I wasn't expecting, and I enjoyed every minute of it. You don't know who you can trust, and what's going to happen next. I can't wait to see where this story goes next with the next book!

Love - hate this book

I’ll start by saying this was a DNF for me. Continue reading but finally gave up at 75%. I’m giving 3 stars only because from a literary standpoint, the writing itself wasn’t awful and the editing was good. I found myself skimming quite a bit of it, but the over all storyline was interesting. My problems lie with Maeve’s relationship with Jack, and Maeve being mostly too stupid to live a lot of the time.

As children, Maeve was friends with Jack’s sister Dana. Mage came from a poor background with an alcoholic mother and delinquent father. Dana was the sheltered mafia princess, but she and her mother were kind to Maeve. Jack calls Maeve scum and tells her that their father does not want Dana to be friends with her. He destroys her. She then runs home to find her father is abandoning them. He destroys the rest of her. The writing itself was such that I felt my heartbreak with Maeve’s devastation. Her mother I’ve never shown her kindness, and tells the six-year-old child that it’s her fault the father left.

As an adult, she’s in university and returns home to find her family being roughed up by some thugs that her brother owes a lot of money to. Her brother is an addict and her mother still an alcoholic. The fox say they will be back and take Maeve if she does not come up with the money to pay them. In desperation she turns to Jack. This is where it gets sketchy. Jack destroyed her child heart, makes her sign a contract that she will sleep with him and stay with him in exchange for this money, locks her up, and leaves her beaten brother for dead when she tries to hand off the money with the thugs. She screams at Jack and tells him she will never forgive him. Yet as soon as he touches her, she just can’t help leaning into him, and says she can’t help the feelings she has for him. He steals all of her freedoms, keeps her locked up, reneged on the agreement and says she hast to stay with him forever, and leave her with a guard who threatens her with physical harm as well as with raping her. But even through all of this, she just can’t help kissing him or leaning into him when he touches her face. I cannot stand her doormat week personality. She’s written in the strange sometimes tough sometimes too stupid to live persona. I find it hard to believe that she’s carried the weight for her family for all these years, and has no sense of self-preservation or even common sense. I love a good enemies to lovers, but this is not that. We’re to believe that Jack has always loved her, even though he’s doing nothing to show it. Or to believe that even though he does horrible things to her, things that I’ve destroyed her emotionally and she’s even sworn to never forgive, yet all it takes is one one look from him and she can’t help but love him. That’s not love.

I really wanted to like this more. I just hate that she’s such a ridiculous doormat.

This book is decent but average. The writing quality is good and it kept me hooked; however, I haven’t decided if I’ll continue with the series.

This is definitely a lite mafia story if that’s a thing. You get a glimpse of violence, but no real gore or trauma. The mafia world was kind of weak and was very centralized to a few family members. You don’t even know what the family actually does to make money. I assume drugs and real estate given some of the murky context clues.

The FMC is okay. I like her at times and other times I think she is really weak. For someone who grew up on hard times in the slums, she acts like Bambi in the mob situations. Kinda baffling and mildly irritating.

At first, I thought the MC was an abusive a-hole, but as I learned more about him through his POV he grew on me. By the end chapters, I was swooning. His little gestures are everything.

The end was wrapped up too quickly. We get a climax event and a few pages they’re sitting down to eat like a perfect Stepford family with her mom and bro. Nahhhhh. Give us more development with Maeve integrating into the mafia family. Show us the wedding, maybe? I would have liked to see her taking on some mafia biz rather than the campy Disney ending. It was boring and dragged the book down in my rating.

Maeve really has a rough background. Her dad leaves her family and her mother is an alcoholic and her brother is addicted to drugs. She is trying to go to college while also taking care of her family the best she can. I felt really bad for her. I was a little frustrated at the same time because she feels like she has to take on their burdens and puts herself in a bad situation.

Jack is the typical alpha male. He also has a somewhat spoiled mentality because he is expected to take over from his dad. I really did enjoy his relationship with Maeve. While there was drama, the two really compliment each other.

Before reading this, I realized that this series was really a continuation of the series Wild Irish which features the parents of all the kids in this book. Having read that series prior to this one really helped in the understanding of some of the characters and why they are the way they are. While it's not necessary to read these beforehand, I would highly recommend it.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Mafia Prince by Vi Carter is a Dark Irish Mafia Romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Michael Gallagher and Sarah Jane Rose. This is the first book in the Young Irish Rebels series.

This is the first book of Vi's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Maeve and Jack. Their relationship was messy but you couldn't help but root for them.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Mafia King to be released on audio so I can get Emma and Shay's story.

Michael and Sarah did an amazing job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would highly recommend this book if you love dark romances, mafia romances, or romantic suspense.
