I think I would have enjoyed this more if I’d been reading along with the audio because I was easily lost at first until I got used to the writing style. I actually enjoyed the overall story that was a told, although the incest was off putting and out of the blue.
There was a lot of rhythm and musicality that the translator was able to keep from the original work. Well, I would like to read it in the original Spanish. Though I’m not sure how much of it would be lost on me since Cuban Spanish and Mexican Spanish are quite different. I’m definitely interested in finding her poetry works and reading those.

Well, I really wanted to like this one. I think the Cuban history included is really interesting, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the format and structure. I don’t think I’m familiar enough with Cuban history to fully appreciate the style she was attempting to use.
