A murder/mystery which focuses more on human nature and how each deal with grief, betrayal and relationship.

Annie is a breath of fresh air from most MC in a mystery book. She has her flaws, gets scared and aware of the risks.

Beautifully written, with characters you cannot help to love, even those you maybe shouldn't
As Annie gets to know her great-aunt Frances through her diary, so does the reader, finding kinship in the girl's sudden empathy for someone she has never met
Keeping it spoiler free, the ending will absolutely surprise you, several times over and in several ways
Great read, highly recommend

I really enjoyed this book. It read very fluidly, and the story felt believable and grounded.
I wasn't overly concerned with figuring out who-done-it, and moreso just enjoyed the story. Because of this, I definitely did not guess the ending at all.
I felt connected to Annie, and Francis, propelled to learn more. I look forward to the next!
There was a continuity error in terms of who owned the Rolls Royce, but maybe I didn't read that correctly. From my understanding, it belonged to Ford's father, but he died in a car accident? wouldn't that imply the rolls got smashed?

spoiler: she did NOT solve her own murder

Okay, it wasn’t awful. It was quick and got me through a bit of a reading slump so I appreciate it for that. It just isn’t anything spectacular or groundbreaking. The most unique aspect was the fortune! But I liked that it didn’t wade into magical waters for the story, it was based in reality (as much as a murder mystery can be).
