  • Zutara 🩷🩷🩷
  • Bellamy is the perfect Zuko
  • Nyla is so much better than Azula could even dream of being
  • Need the second book ASAP!!
  • Koraine wasn’t as good as Katara but that might be because of the plot

It’s entertaining if you like Zutara but the writing style can be hard to get through at times. I feel like the author does a lot of telling rather than showing and things just progress so quickly it was hard to keep straight. I will say it seemed to get better as the book progressed, almost as if you could see the author getting more experienced and comfortable with writing and her style as she continued in the book. Because of that and because I’m a shameless Zutara fan I will probably still give the second book a shot. Definitely satisfied that part of me that wanted more after ATLA ended.

Broken flames is inspired by "Avatar- the last airbender" and it reads like a Zutara (zuko und katara) fanfiction. It's an enemies to lovers/forced marriage romance.
Watching Avatar I have always shipped Zuko and Katara and would have loved nothing more as to see them end up together. That is why I knew I had to read this book.  But tbh I was a bit disappointed. The whole love story felt incredibly rushed. There was no real chemistry build up and all the other characters and story lines felt incredibly flat as well. I would have loved to see their love story unfold a bit more detailed. They hated each other and 10 pages later they were oh-so-in-love. All in all the story could have been more in depth.

“If I am the burning sun, ruled by flames, then you are my moon, ruling over the tides and completing the missing half of me.”

MK Ahearn dedicated this book to all the Zutara shippers who thought Zuko and Katara were the OTP and she nailed it. In this enemies to lovers romantasy a moody fire prince with a haunted past is arranged to marry the daughter of a water tribe general in an effort to unite their nations. Tie in a tyrannical Fire Lord who wants to watch the world burn and you have yourself a war brewing.

As a diehard ATLA fan I had fun finding the similarities and differences between the two stories. While you can absolutely tell Ahearn drew influences from ATLA, I think she did a great job making this book her own and I look forward to the release of Warring Tides in January 2025.

Forewarning- it does end on a huge cliff hanger so if you're someone that needs a completed story, maybe wait until December or January to read it. Broken Flames and the pre-order for Warring Tides is available on amazon.
