So boring, I persevered because I thought something would happen.

I read it before seeing Jojo Rabbit (my thoughts here) and the whole time I was like HOW did Taika Waititi see through the matrix to make a comedy??? Honestly a really good book if you know what you're getting into (it's messed up).

I had a hard time rating this book but after giving it some thought I made up my mind.

Despite it being a 3,06 stars in the overall opinion, I liked it. I even loved it until maybe two thirds of the way through. Yes, the main character is awful, but that doesn't bother me, he is meant to be awful so the author did a good job. I didn't like Elsa either, but that's fine, I liked that she doesn't act like you'd expect a victim would, and I rather hate the characters than not feel anything for them at all.

I also enjoyed the plot itself. It is dark and twisted but watching it through the villain's eyes was refreshing to say the least.

What bothered me was the ending. I expected something a bit more dramatic, I would've enjoyed that a lot more. But, I was hooked until the very end, I kept wondering what would happen next and hoping for a quiet moment to grab the book and finish it. Also, the writing was flawless, which is one of the most important things to me in a book.

I really don't think it deserves such a bad rating, there are much worse books, badly written, cliche, with flat, uninteresting characters, predictable endings, that have better reviews. A lot of the reviews, however, mentioned "Jojo Rabbit", which I haven't watched, and maybe that's why I enjoyed it more than others. I didn't have any expectations. Maybe in this case it is better to watch the movie after having read the book.
