Part autobiography, part history lesson, part political primer, and part a love note to Canada. This ought to be required reading in high school history classes. Not necessarily because of May's Green message but because her message is one of a positive and constructive government and political system.

I find Elizabeth May to generally be intelligent and insightful, but I found this book never hit its groove.

Who We Are tries to weave in an autobiography into a political manifesto, and unfortunately, I find it fails. By the last few chapters, most of the storytelling has fallen away to political issues. Key details are skipped over. May mentions that the leadership race for the Green Party was gruelling but we never get any insight into why, for example.

While I enjoyed reading more about May’s early life and a deep dive into her political opinions, I found this book could’ve done better with a little more focus.
