A few chapters were really hard to get through, but knowing her story and the positive ending it had, made it worth the read. There are a lot of trigger warnings that come with this book, and be aware of that.
I cannot imagine what she went through and hearing about it, and knowing that this book is in her own words is...shocking.
She's such a beautiful person and I can only hope to be as positive about life and about the future as she is.

This was an incredibly difficult book to read. There were moments when I wanted to throw up, especially during the more graphic scenes of rape and the descriptions of Philip's "runs". I read and asked myself: what would I have done in that situation? Would I have been able to mentally bear what was going on? My conclusion always comes to the fact that Jaycee Dugard is such a strong individual. To have gone through such a terrible, inhumane ordeal is traumatizing for life, but she seems very well-adjusted right now. Even so, I feel that it is very difficult to learn about her eighteen years in captivity, especially when the story is told from her own words. However, this is also an incredibly uplifting story about the resiliency of human spirit. How people like Jaycee can stay mentally-stable during these situations and see the good (her beautiful baby girls, her many beloved pets) is amazing. I hope that she and her family are doing fine, and will be fine, for the rest of their lives.
