See my review of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight for an earlier example of my Arthurian fandom. What other rating could I dare to give this, the crown jewel of all Arthurian fables collections?

Also, be sure to read the *un*-abridged version of this work - even the lesser stories are entertaining.

Some episodes in this book I really enjoyed, others not so much. The original tale of Sir Gareth was great, as were the tales of Lancelot & Guenivere and the Death of Arthur. The weak spot, to me, was the Tale of the Sangreal. Sir Galahad is so superhumanly perfect that it is very hard to identify with him, and it seems unfair that the quest should be so easy for him when Sir Percival, who is just as "pure" as Sir Galahad, should be tested so much more strenuously.
This is a very important work of literature, but that does not mean that it is always fun to read. I'm glad I read it, but now I'm ready for a break from Arthurian legend.

Compelling tales of another time. The characters have so many virtues and foibles seen even today.

Always fun to read the classics, and see what inspired future writers. I generally prefer the more modern stuff, but fun if clunky read

2nd reading : The Noble Tale of the Sankgreal; I had to read this for a seminar essay, and I don't think it is among the best tales about the Knights. This is where they all need to show their virtues, and the knights who have not yet been sexually active are the ones deemed the most virtuous. Less humourous than other tales, and quite slow to read, however, it is all still very interesting to me, as the legends of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table are part of the beginning of literature as we know it.
One reason why it was slow reading is because the version I read is not in modern English, so the wording and the syntax is quite different, and it takes a lot longer to read and to make complete sense of it all.
