“I wish you could see yourself the way I see you" - Adam

Tropes:
Opposites Attract, He Falls First, Slow Burn, Fake Dating

I loved reading this book from beginning to end. The opening was hilarious and immediately drew me in, leaving me thoroughly engrossed until the final page. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I laughed throughout the book, making the reading experience truly enjoyable. Although the spice level was on the low side, the build-up more than made up for it.

Olive is an incredibly selfless person who always puts the needs of others before her own, even when she knows she will be at a disadvantage.
For instance, she helps her best friend, Anh, pursue her crush, even though Olive used to have feelings for him too. This is where the fake dating comes in, but Olive did it for the sake of her friend. Additionally, there's a moment when she doesn't want to reveal to Adam what Tom said and tries to do to her because she's afraid he'll miss out on an important opportunity.
It's heartwarming to see how much Olive cares about the people she loves.

I also found Adam's character interesting. He's a highly dedicated professor who takes his research seriously, which unfortunately doesn't make him very popular. However, he has many close personal relationships that speak volumes about how much he's respected for his work.
Sadly, not all of his friends have his best interests at heart—looking at you Tom. There were several hints that Tom wasn't kind, especially when Holden warned Olive about him. I was shocked when Olive's friends found out the truth about Tom.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this book and I can't wait to read more books by this author!

This book is absolutely wonderful! I was definitely sad when it ended! (Not because of the book) I could not put it down. Highly recommend.

If this is the genre of contemporary romance, then I have been missing out!

The Love Hypothesis is a beautiful romance story between Grumpy and Sunshine...or Adam and Olive. The whole premise is that of fake-dating thanks to Olive's lying problem (of course, her lies are well-intentioned...for the most part).

This book features a diverse and lovable cast (
Olive's demisexuality, mm relationship
), with a romance relationship you can't help but root for. As for tropes, which we all know and love: fake dating,
he falls first
, Grumpy and Sunshine, age gap (Olive is 26 and Adam is 34), "there's only one bed." Then we have Ahn, who loves to force some PDA!

I truly loved this book, and the only critique I had was that Olive
lying about being in love with someone else to Adam, so that Adam wouldn't know she was actually crushing on him
felt a bit misplaced. When I finished that particular chapter, I felt that it was rather unnecessary and only existed to spur further drama. In my opinion, the story could have continued on trajectory without that particular event, and I found it a bit jarring from an otherwise enjoyable reading experience.

Throughout the book, I kept thinking about how I would love to hear Adam's perspective, and the bonus chapter definitely offered some insight, so I would recommend getting the edition that has the bonus chapter!

Overall, if you want to get into contemporary romance, read Ali Hazelwood's The Love Hypothesis. I certainly will continue exploring the genre, and read her other books!
