This was good and honestly surprisingly complex in story and character arcs for a children’s book. It was pretty dark for a children’s book, too. The sheer number of times animal cruelty was mentioned or described was quite disturbing. I’m glad I didn’t read this in my childhood.
Elenor was undoubtedly the MVP.
Still, I don’t see myself continuing with the rest of the series.

This was my first reread of inkheart in years and the nostalgia is real. The inkheart series was one of the first bigger books I read as a child and rereading it reminded me of my love for this series and how much it influenced my love for reading and writing. If this would have been my first read, I might have only given it four stars but since it owns such a special place in my heart I needed to give it five stars.
