“Your body was no longer something you wore but something you wielded.”

“You had asked your squire’s name once, but he’d said he was never given one. You filled the absence with other words, none of which described what he was to you.”

“I have lived and killed and lived again in the name of a man who does not deserve it because I wanted so badly to be beloved.”

Holy moly?! I need more Alix Harrow and I think I need to reread this, knowing what I know now 🤯. At first, when I realised it was in second POV, I inwardly complained but man…. This is so clever. I’m not smart enough for this book, going to reread it, especially as it’s only 30 pages! 30 damn pages but it’s so good and has such a bigger message (that I need to fully comprehend once I reread it again).

Finding yourself

I liked the narration and the hazy dreamlike structure of the story of a girl fighting for herself and finding herself through battles of life. The story evokes strong feelings for the main character and a comparison of your own life to her life and choices. It was throught provoking and enjoyable as read.

I recommend this short story to those who enjoy mysterious complex stories, like the Fountain, A Space Oddisey, or Inception.

I give this 5/5 stars, as it's a rare read I'd gladly re-read again.
