I have lived and killed and lived again in the name of a man who does not deserve it because I wanted so badly to be beloved.
But only one person in all my lives has ever loved me, and he does not wear a crown.

This book is so short, but it has affected me in many ways.
Did I actually finished the book? Did did it finish me?
I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this.

There was definitely a magic to these 30 pages. How she wrote an epic love story in just that many pages I'll never fully understand. I went in hearing a lot of hype about it and was not disappointed other than I wanted more (but I think that's the point, in a way, really).

Note: I read this just coming off the heels of reading Alix's other most recent work Starling House and I think it actually gave me some insight into her writing style some which is really nice. Definitely has me looking forward to reading her other works in the future!

I wonder what the songs will say about the Devil now that she is covered in the blood of her own God.

I honestly can't really decide if I liked this or not. Basically, I easily identified with it and liked the narrative, but somehow something seemed to be missing. I had a bit of a Joan of Arc feeling from this book, but that's probably just me.

If you're looking for a quick and nicely written short story, I recommend it.

i just have one thing to say:

"... you understood once again who you were, and would be, and are now: a woman following her own footprints, a snake eating her own tail, forever."

beautiful story, beautiful prose and tone. i loved it. go in blind, do not look anything up: experience this for yourself.
