I think I liked this so much because it was so different from what I usually read. It's hard to put my finger on it. The stories were OK, not amazing, but it was just so different for me that I really appreciated it.

It has a really fast pace, you could read this in one or two days.
The story is more about a man's journey to self discovery and self improvement and not about the actual sinking, that's just the setting.

This book contains four short stories, the main one, the title one, is the one most know. What make it particular is not the writing, same could be said about the others stories, not much in any of them, but the strange similarity between the story and the Titanic. It almost describe exactly the Titanic and how it sinks but it was published in 1898 and the Titanic sinks in 1912. This is kind of weird and make the book worth reading just for that. The rest of it is okay, but nothing noticeable in my opinion. An anecdotic read!

There is a load of hype about this story, A large ship considered unsinkable was travelling at speed across the Atlantic, hits an iceberg and sinks, due to so few lifeboats everybody dies....Written over 10 years before the Titanic. Was it premonition or was Morgan Robertson able to see the way things were going?

I was on the whole disappointed with the book, yes it was a large ship, and it hit an iceberg, but it sank instantly, the lifeboats became a non-event in the end.

The story itself was interesting, John Rowland was quite the hero, his survival with a small child was some top notch writing.

It is worth giving it a read though, a small bit of history here.
