I was about 200 pages into the book when someone asked what it was about. I couldn't answer them. I feel like the whole plot of this book happens in the last 100 pages. The first 2/3 of the book was just fluff. And while I enjoyed it, there was no real purpose for it to be there. Some of it was important, like building a relationship between Carrie and Pfeff, but the rest does't really make sense. It was like I was reading a really long exposition.
On the other hand, one of the things I did appreciate about this book was the main character. I liked the fact that she had major flaws, and I didn't agree with most of her decisions. It made her more interesting to read about. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend to people who don't like supper plot driven books.

I loved how we got to know the family a little in-depth. It just shows that the ghost visited those who were heavily medicated but it also brings to light the cracks in the stories because we don't know if both Carrie and Cady are heavily medicated to give us what really went on. That island carries so many secrets, can't wait to read the other book and find out what goes on. This prequel isn't as heavy as We Were liars but it was an easy read!

I read this right after finishing the We Were Liars tv show, and it was great for providing more insight into some of the creative decisions they made. It's been many, many years since I read We Were Liars the book so I don't remember what it was like at all, but I enjoyed this one and found it to be a fast-paced, interesting read that gives readers a window into another generation of the Sinclair family. Yardley was one of my favorite characters, and I thought the decision to center the book around Carrie was perfect.
