I really enjoyed this book. It finally tied together all of Alcatraz's beliefs about himself. Yes, the ending got kinda dark, but it made sense to me. I think it needed to be dark to justify Alcatraz's hatred toward himself. Also, knowing beforehand that this wasn't the real conclusion helped. As did the little note Bastille left at the end. Ending aside though, most of the book was still a lot of fun.

I was about to give this book a truly horrible review based on the ending but then I realized there’s actually one more book in this series and I can go read it immediately! I can appreciate the author subverting the tropes he set everyone up for, but leaving such a long gap between publishing this book and the next one seems cruel and unusual!

This was a truly devastating ending to Alcatraz's story. If it was left here I'd be very upset. I can't wait to read Bastille's book!

SpoilerWhen the other reviewers said this got dark fast, they weren't messing around.
I need to think about how I feel about this one. I have so many conflicting emotions!
