feelings follow action, so even if you dno't 'feel' in love, do actions of love for your spouse and love will follow.

Excellent book whether you are single or have been married for 60 years. Practical, Biblically based advice on many hot-button issues like submission, divorce (I do not fully agree with his views on this), headship, along with much more. He comes at many of the same issues that other authors have written on with a unique position and/or explanation. Easy to read, but meaty.
Hands down the best book on marriage ever written. As pastors, we use it for everything: pre-marital counseling, marriage counseling, small groups for married couples, and our own personal reading. Other than the Bible, there is no better material ever written on Christian marriage. I have read it 4 or so times now, and see something new each time. It will never get old.

Comprehensive. True. Convicting. Quotable.
This is the best marriage book I have read. Keller has always been one of my favorite authors for the way he can distill truth in beautiful turns of phrase that my brain can hold onto and this was no exception. Admittedly, I thought crossing a favorite author with a least favorite sub-genre would not go well so I put off reading this for a while, but I'm glad I read it and am zero disappointed. I especially loved chapters 5 (loving the stranger) and 7 (singleness and marriage). I slow read this one because I was only reading from the physical book and I didn't always have it with me (doesn't fit in your pocket quite like Hidden Christmas). I love how the Kellers can take such a high view of marriage while also reminding readers that marriage is not the destination, God alone is the aim.
Ch 4: "In this view of marriage, each person says to the other, 'I see all your flaws, imperfections, weaknesses, dependencies. But underneath them all I see growing the person God wants you to be.'"

Read it as part of my Women's Group. I enjoyed the book, although I will say that by the end I was ready to be finished. Perhaps because of the length of time we took to read it? It was really interesting in that it made sense for even the singles out there to read it to get the true Godly perspective on marriage. One of my favorite books ever is "Jesus the King" by Keller - he doesn't disappoint.
The Meaning of Marriage was probably one of the most helpful books about marriage that I've yet read/come across. Because of it's skillful combination of both Scriptural principle and practical advice based on Scriptural principle, I feel like it not only pointed out where I'm not thinking correctly about marriage, but also how I could begin to correct my thinking. It definitely gets right at the foundation of good marriages (based on Biblical principles) and encourages singles and newly marrieds not to give up in their efforts to create that good marriage. Couldn't recommend it highly enough! The first chapter alone is worth buying the book for, because the (secular) statistics that it uses about divorce are enough to make you re-think why you've always thought marriages fail.

My wife and I did a buddy-read of this and discussed each chapter over dinner. It was well worth our time and taught us a lot about our marriage!
