It's a great book in helping us think through motivations in going into marriage, our attitude in marriage, and it's got the best chapter on singleness I've ever read. Married or single, if you're a Christian you should read this book.

Great book very thought provoking and filled with eye opening wisdom!!!!
I just finished reading this book for a second time. The first time I finished it was during a period of singleness where I found it immensely convicting and encouraging. This time around I'm in a serious dating relationship where the possibility of marriage seems more real. I found it more of a roller coaster as I processed the depth of difficulties that come with marriage and relished in the hope of the gospel. Overall I was refreshed with the hard truth and encouraged by the miracle that only through God's power can marriage be beautiful.
One small critique I have of this book is Tim Keller's introduction. It's a little overkill on the "doom and gloom" of modern day America in our dissatisfaction with marriage and high divorce rates. There are plenty of wonderful marriages out there and plenty of people - believers and unbelievers - who are embracing marriage. But other than that, I found Keller's examples, facts, and explanations exceptionally practical, clear, and enlightening.
I could see this being a book that I read over and over again and continue to gain new insights and remind myself of the truth and hope of the gospel to redeem marriage and have it fulfill God's intended purposes. I highly recommend this book to everyone, in every life stage!

Articulates marriage as something actually beautiful in a culture where even Christians struggle to do so.
“Loving the Stranger” chapter is perhaps one of the most perspective-changing, beautiful explanations of marriage I have ever read.

Here are the two most important sentences in the entire book:
“The experience of Jesus’ grace makes it possible to practice the two most important skills in marriage: forgiveness and repentance. Only if we are very good at forgiving and very good at repenting can truth and love be kept together.” (163)
