This book was absolutely revolutionary for me in the way that I view my marriage. Even having grown up in the church and having held traditional evangelical Christian beliefs of life and marriage my whole life, this put so many things into perspective, gave incredible insight, and has literally transformed my heart, three years into my marriage. Specifically the resounding theme of the purpose of marriage to point to God and to work together to help both partners become who they're created to be in Christ, was so moving and deeply affecting to my heart. I'm so grateful to have read this book and would highly recommend to any person, single or married, who wants to gain a more Biblical perspective on marriage.

This is one of the best books on marriage. It is so informative and helpful on the mission of marriage and practical tips in being a wife/husband.

I loved this book so much. It really helps to paint a beautiful picture of God’s design for marriage. There were a couple of times when it seemed like it talked a lot about the opposite of marriage and then very briefly followed it up with what marriage is which I could’ve done with the opposite. However, it was still so good. Highly recommend

This book had so much wisdom for those who are married, engaged, or single. It’s based on the (in)famous passage in Ephesians that includes “wives, submit to your husbands”, a passage that always caused me to recoil. Even though these verses have been used as justification for gross behavior, when taken in the context of the early church it is so much deeper than it first appears. I underlined so many parts of this book that I thought was wise or interesting. There were several instances where the author shows how early christian relationship models were radically progressive compared to the contemporary ones, and how they still differ from modern ones.

One of the many takeaways I found was an empowering illustration of the husband and wife relationship. Both are to be like Jesus - the husband is like Jesus to the church and the wife is like Jesus to the Father.

This review doesn’t give the book justice, but I highly recommend it to anyone in any stage of their life looking to follow the Christian model for relationships. One of the best non-fiction books I’ve read.

I like Tim Keller a lot, but am not a passionate fan of his, so it should mean something when I say this book is extraordinarily good and really blew my expectations away. It brilliantly, perceptively, and practically lays out the groundwork of marriage as seen in the Bible, its context within our relationship to God and others, and some of the intricacies and pitfalls inherent to it. I would recommend to EVERY Christian prior to getting married.

I loved this book! So good and insightful! I highly recommend it. I would have given it 5 stars except that I am egalitarian and disagree with his view on gender roles. However, while one chapter and the appendix go into this, most of the book does not, making it easy to read and apply either way.
