Some really great short stories in this. Loved the one about the ostrich girl!

I liked some of these stories a lot, and didn't enjoy a lot of the other ones. Which, I guess, is how it goes with collections of short stories.

This... is okay. Wildly hit-or-miss, and Pierce's story is included in Tortall and Other Lands (it's GOOD, but I'd hoped for something new to me).

Standouts: Holly Black's Heartless for creep factor, Pamela F. Service's Lioness, Esther Friesner's Thunderbolt, India Edgehill's Devil Wind, and Doranna Durgin's Emerging Legacy.

Negative standouts: Axe for Men, Swords that Talk, Gift of Rain Mountain.

A wonderfully inventive collection of empowering short stories. Normally, I'll like a few stories in any given collection, and the rest will fall somewhere along the spectrum between "okay" and "I just wasted my time reading that?!" Young Warriors was full of well-chosen shorts, though, each consistently imaginative and downright fun.

Yes, it's a YA book, but unlike some, it doesn't have a condescending tone or shy away from "troubling" subject matter. Delightful to read!

I admit it. I judged this book by its cover. But a friend recommended it, and I'm very glad she did. This book is truly diverse in its main characters and settings but also in its exploration of what it means to be a "warrior." Like any anthology, some stories are stronger than others. But on the whole, I was truly surprised at how many I enjoyed it.

A couple of stand out stories mid way through but mostly average fare featuring some heroic young teens. YA
