we too: essays on sex work and survival is a powerful collection that i feel humbled to read. as the introduction states emphatically - this is not sex workers asking for rescue. this is a work that is "allowing our non-sex working readers to sit with us...but the collection itself is for us." these stories allow me to not only sit with them, but also to learn from sex workers who are radical; sex workers who fight for and speak of a safer future, where sex work is decriminalized and destigmatized. a future where victims aren't revictimized. in this important book, sex workers openly and honestly share a piece of themselves and their experiences; i highly encourage all to read this and listen to their honest and powerful voices. i know i will be returning to this book often.

"For a community that is constantly silenced and erased, spoken for and talked over, the gathering of so many voices here is powerful...We can speak and it is time people listened. It is time for our perspectives to be treated as legitimate. It is time to include us in all that affects us...We're speaking, and it's time to listen."

let's stop overusing political language to talk about our emotions ❤️ let's stop glamorizing what is experienced as trauma by many ❤️

every story resonates. the diversity and variety here and yet the common experiences. the choices and the power dynamics. the growth and learning and most of all community and connection. love how this was curated and love what i learnt from it and will share.
