medium-paced
A kindergarten homework assignment that neither the kindergartner nor I like.
New siblings are hard! And I love Lilly's bossyboots defense of the baby at the end.
The extreme language of Lilly (the Olivia before there was Olivia) might offend some, but this book teaches a powerful lesson of jealousy paired with familial loyalty.
Cute with a few minor reservations. Since Lilly already has such a strong personality, her initial bratty and disdainful behavior toward her new baby brother is a lot to take in addition to it. However, I like that Lilly stands up for Julius when the perfect opportunity arises and discovers that she does love and appreciate him; that felt extremely genuine to the nature of sibling relationships.
When Julius is born his sister, Lilly, decides that having a baby brother is not so great. She tries to no avail to make everyone see that he is not an adorable baby. Only after a family member insults Julius does Lilly feel the need to stand up and protect her baby brother.
