This is one of the first books I've picked up where I wasn't familiar with the author. I was on the hunt for a festive book to read during December in the lead up to Christmas and this book was the perfect, cosy read!
The characters were beautiful and easy to relate to. Story line simple enough to follow and not get lost, but gripping enough to keep you engaged. It was real and warm and a great Christmas read.

I enjoyed the writing of this book , the characters had depth compared to other holiday romance novels . I did find it dragged at times for me , but that’s probably because I’m not a lover of romance. But this is a nice Christmas story with good family connection and shows the Christmas spirit for sure .

En jättebra och mysig bok, som vanligt! Jag hoppas att det här är början på en ny serie för jag vill gärna läsa mer om dessa karaktärer!

This one is probably 3.5 stars for me, but I chose to round down for my star rating. The idea of a Christmas bookshop setting is cute, and I love the quirky little old man who owned the bookshop. The main character, Carmen, was fairly unlikable at the beginning, but she became more likable as the story progressed. I found the character of Blair to be an annoying addition to the story. I feel like Oke needed more character buildup because I just didn’t find their connection to be so believable. Having the sisters get closer and Carmen develop some usefulness and a connection to the shop owner were nice parts of the story. I enjoyed the humor with the little children. They made the story more enjoyable. All in all, it was a nice story, but I expected more warmth from a story called The Christmas Bookshop and found the ending to be a little underwhelming.

This was a cute story about a woman who struggled all her life to be good enough for anyone, including friends, family and men. After much insistence her sister invited her to stay with her family and help out one of her clients with his bookshop. And she found herself, got to know her family and I’m excited to see what happens in book 2!

I have paused on novels by Jenny Colgan for a while, as they started to feel about too similar for my taste, when I read a lot of them a couple of years back.

But then I stumbled across this:
Christmas, Bookshop, Edinburgh - three favourites of mine, so I just couldn't resist!

I'm so glad I did buy it, as I really enjoyed it a lot.

I read some of the other reviews, and it seems that I like bed what some other people seemed to dislike most about the book. The main character not being a perfectly friendly, nice and all around "perfect" human.

She is a bit self centered and definitely a bit whiny at times, but not more so than most real people are at some point. She is jealous of her sister, who studied and seems to have a perfect life, and to be everyone's favourite.

I loved seeing her forced into leaving her comfort zone of the job she has had since she was a teen, and start to venture into a new home, new job, new situation.

I didn't think her shallow, but rather annoyed at herself for just getting stuck in her teenage retail job, b cause she never actually *dared* to try for more. Once life doesn't give her any other changes she starts to shed her shell and grow into the person she could have been, if only she didn't hide away from life. She knows she is responsible for her choices, but like people do she rather closes her eyes and tries to blame others. It made her feel very human to me.

The side characters were a bit stereotypical and could have done with some more fleshing out. However as I really liked the main character and so didn't mind much. The romance also wasn't one to sweep me away, but it never took center stage, so again I didn't mind.

Instead it was mostly about a woman finding her own way and voice, and a way to click with her family after all.

Now combine this with Edinburgh, Christmas and plenty of books, and you have an almost perfect story for me!

4,5 rounded up, and definitely a favourite winter read!

Perfect December book. It has all the things: quaint town, family, a potential love interest (or two), personal growth, a charming gentleman as the boss - all set around a cute bookshop. What more could you want for the holidays?

3.5 ⭐️

The beginning felt very Jojo Moyes-y to me and seeing parallels between their writing styles constantly took me out of the story a little.

The more I read the more I enjoyed the book tho. It’s the perfect story to get into the Christmas spirit and I loved the cozy atmosphere that comes with old bookshops.
