okay... so this was definitely a step up from acotar. a small step, but that is better than nothing. I do not understand how this book was over 600 pages???? what even happened??? i feel like it needed to be edited down a fair amount. I wasn't a fan of the way miss maas would just kinda lore dump for entire chapters, it just comes across as poor writing ahah. some other thoughts:

- i dont hate feyre and rhysand, but i think
Spoiler rhysand having known she was his soulmate since pretty much the beginning takes away from their development. like I already wasnt a fan in the first book of how tamlin only took feyre in with the motive to make her fall in love with him, these things just make all their previous interactions feel faker maybe??? it would have been better if rhys realised AFTER he had already fallen in love with feyre bc of all the time they had been spending together

- the other characters (mor, amren, cassian, azriel) seem fine, didnt love the way they just kinda told their lifestories to feyre at once but theyre okay.

- feyre was soooo ISFP annoying sometimes, especially towards rhys, like girl chill out,
Spoiler like when she found out they were mates??? and ran away for DAYS???? thats so extra girl just take a short walk or something omg. ALSO WHY ARE YOU PAINTING SOMEONE ELSES HOUSE IT IS NOT YOURS

- i was speed reading the ending to finish it fast so my understanding of it is very rough, but just like acotar I dont like how much of the plot occurs in the final 50 pages it makes the pacing feel weird

-
Spoilerlucien and elain being mates???? so random?????? why???? also turning both elain and nesta into fae just felt like a bad plot point ahah like whyyyy this is fanfic behaviour!!! i really dont understand why the king let them all go and why it was necessary to break rhys and feyres bond??? i think i need to read a recap or something

- CONTROVERSIAL TAKE WARNING: I really dont think tamlin is as awful as they make him out to be, yes he shouldnt have locked feyre up but he does ptsd??? hes been through some stuff??? it makes sense that he would be very overprotective instinctively considering how unsafe everything has been for DECADES. also from his perspective rhys is an AWFUL guy so i dont blame him too much for wanting to make sure feyre was okay. like he took it a bit too far but at least it shows his commitment to her??? idk. it pretty clear that with each book maas is going to think of something new to make him worse but based on what i know right now until i get to acowar, he could be much worse i think

i think thats all i have to say right now. thought the ending was weird with feyre lying and whatever but sure. taking a massive break before acowar because 350 pages in 2 days of this nonsense has killed some braincells. im still giving it 3 stars (which might be a bit generous i might change my mind) (i changed my mind its 2.5)just because it was recognisably better than the first book in its writing and character "like-ability", i can kinda see why it might be some peoples thing just not mine.

until next time, peace and love <3

Loved it. The wedding nonsense. Being part of the inner circle. Learning powers. THE BOND. The win getting the book only to lose with the cauldron later. I can literally feel the love seeping out of the pages.
