The mystery is OK, the setting (in a Chinese community in US) is great. Sadly a fun little plot is overshadowed by the usual sort of heterosexist propaganda where our protagonist (Lana) is treated as broken/flawed because she doesn't want to date, she is bullied for this by her mother and her best friend, ends up in a tropey and cringey love triangle with an obvious one she will choose but then the other one gets portrayed as less masculine too, to round off the why-is-this-not-satire level cringe of it.

Having that as a background plot would have mildly irritated me, the extent to which it is allowed to take over the centre of the plot (from a murder no less) was enraging. Also coercive cops with lack of professional boundaries is triggering to me.
