This is the tale of Ellery Finch and some of his experiences in the Hinterland while Alice was trapped in her own story. Turns out, mostly he was stalking Alice. Just kidding... but not really.

This was a quick, interesting read. I thought this novella was supposed to be from Finch’s point of view over events that happened after The Hazel Wood. Instead, it provides his perspective over some events that already happened in that. I did enjoy learning more about his backstory and motivations though. I have been saving this to read right before The Night Country, so I am hoping I can finally get to it in December.

This short novella tells the same time period through the point of view of Ellery Finch. It wasn’t all I hoped it to be - just kind of repetitive with a sprinkle of reconfirming what we already knew.

I don't feel like this added anything to the story. It did give you a decent back story-is type of thing on Ellory but it's timeline from hazel wood happenings to this one seem completely off

On the plus side, this novella did put me to sleep, so it did what I wanted it to. But on the other hand, there was nothing I liked about it. At all. And I did like Finch in [b:The Hazel Wood|34275232|The Hazel Wood (The Hazel Wood, #1)|Melissa Albert|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1500549460l/34275232._SY75_.jpg|53292100]. I did not like the way it was written, and the "plot" I found extremely boring. Oh well.

I never read this the first time I picked up The Hazel Wood because my physical copy doesn't include this novella, but the audiobook I got from the library had it at the end which was a pleasant surprise! I originally thought this was going to be about what Finch has been up to in the Hinterland since staying there, but it's instead about what he did while Alice was stuck in her story during the first book. Still interesting though since we never originally got that information in The Hazel Wood! A nice addition to the series for sure.

3.5 ⭐️ I was expecting to find out what happened to Finch after he entered the door with Alice at the end of the Hazel Wood. Despite that, I found his side of the story quite enjoyable to read.
