Frankly, for me it's a poetry collection written by a man for men thinking it would charm women. But no, sorry. It was overly sweet. Maybe it was sensual but not the good kind, the s*xual metaphors were too repetitive and nature like, which a very masculine view of sensuality, it just didn't make it. Maybe it's the feminist in me but I don't want to be compared to flower and rose and small and fragile little objects all the time. It was lame and boring and mysoginistic, sorry.

Some truly beautiful phrases in here. At times the words seem to meander in a way I cannot quite follow, though I supposed that is the nature of translation and of poetry.

This is my first encounter with Neruda’s work, but I found this a beautiful collection that eloquently describes the experience of human intimacy through natural imagery.

Absolutely adored this collection.
