I’m not sure why, but I really expected to cry, and I didn’t (which is a feat for me). This was SUCH a good book, though, and as a gifted kid burnout that had a Greek mythology phase (that’s still kinda going), I really appreciated this novel :)

Not my favorite Greek God retelling. It started out so strong with these two demi-gods training together in a world where they aren't accepted. Then it devolved into a semi-Hunger Games vibe that happens every 7 years between all the remaining gods. It just didn't hold my interest. I felt like there were times when it was really slow. Then the romance thread promised one thing, then didn't deliver it.

It was slow at first and there were a lot of times where I didn’t know what was happening or why ppl were fighting but towards the end it got really action-y and the ending made me feel empty because I binged read it

Picture The Hunger Games, but nine of the tributes are Greek Gods and Goddesses (Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Athena, Hermes, Dionysus, Aphrodite, Poseidon and Hephaestus). Every seven years they're forced into mortal bodies and cast down to Earth to compete in the Agon for seven days. While these Olympians are in this vulnerable state, mortal descendants of the great Greek heroes are given the opportunity to hunt them down and attain their immortal powers, achieving kleos, divine glory.
Do you ever read a book and think to yourself I wanna snatch the plot line from the author and write a book this plot deserves because it just went no where?! That is exactly how I felt reading the second half of Lore. I thought I could deal with the urban fantasy aspect of it (the Agon for this cycle is held in New York City) but it really took away from the story. I think this would've been an absolute BANGER of a book if it had taken place during the Roman Empire and had been one of the third or fourth cycles of the Agon. That way the hero bloodlines would've had time to produce mortal descendants and the Gods/Goddesses would've had to compete in the familiar lands of antiquity.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book! It also really did feel like it was kind of like the Hunger Games! My heart hurt for Lore and all that she suffered but I will say, that ending made heart smile! She deserved a great ending! Van got on my nerves but Castor and Miles, I adored! Was an awesome read!

This reminded me of a very gory Percy Jackson/Hunger Games adventure. Some some of the logic confused me Also, the romances were not interesting. I liked Lore and Castor, but they were missing a spark, especially from Lore.

I still don't understand how Athena faked her oath to Lore. Maybe Athena didn't use the right verbiage on purpose and Lore just didn't realize? That still seems fishy.Spoiler
Lore's first kiss with Casper felt like it came out of nowhere.Also :)

The entire time Athena was telling Lore "You have so much anger" and "It's okay to fight and kill because you're a warrior" I was picturing her dressed as Emperor Palpatine saying "Yesssss, feel your anger and hatred! Come to the dark side of the Force!"
