The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I really love Moreno-Garcia’s writing and the setting of all of her novels. I did find this one slow in the first 2/3 or so, but it still held my interest. The last 1/3 was interesting, but maybe a bit predictable. By the end, I wished there had been either more science fiction aspects or more historical pieces incorporated into the story.

definitely liked this new SMG installment, loved the writing and the perfectly crafted gothic-jungle vibes, though I think it might rank just behind Mexican Gothic

Historic sci-fi based on The Island of Doctor Moreau

I wanted to love this one, was one my most anticipated for the year but sadly it was just kind of average. I just couldn't connect or care about the Moreau's, at all.

Pros:
-slow pacing, I love that
-hybrids, my favorite part of the story
-the story, in theory

Cons:
-Carlota and Dr. Moreau. They're both awful and kind of a drag. The Dr is very repetitive.
-predictability, whatever you think is going to happen is exactly what is going to happen.

Really enjoyed this one. I don't know much about the history of the area or the time, but I didn't feel a lack with that.

It was a little predictable in parts, but I really enjoyed the way the story resolved and the climax. I also felt the pacing was a little off, but not enough to pull me out of it!

Overall, a really great read!
