“Summer solstice came and went, and in a way I find that sad because even though it is the longest day of the year and marks the beginning of summer, from now on, the days grow shorter and shorter. It's true that some parties end before they even begin.”
meandering in the best way possible. just your typical 20-somethings and their day-by-day, summer chronicles in NYC, where they encounter privileged and pretentious socialites, reconnect with (somewhat) old flames, find ways to make ends meet, and enjoy happy hours throughout the nights. Isa is an entertaining character who, although may be impressionable and vapid, presents herself and her introspections confidently and honestly. Granados’ ability to illustrate each atmosphere and setting authentically made Isa’s and Gala’s experiences more compelling to follow.

Fun, delightful, heartfelt piece! The main character/narrator has so many interesting observations of the people and environements she interacts with, would love to have an honest chat with the character herself!
Couldn’t help but to compare the almost business like way the characters socialize to Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Would definitely be interested in having both Isa and Holly meet!

Halfway through the book, when the novel started to seem really tedious, I read a profile of Marlowe Granados that renewed my interest in the whole endeavor. It put the whole thing into perspective for me. I love that it is unapologetically a story about young women enjoying themselves (for the most part) and is not overwrought with lessons or personal growth. (The characters do grow, but naturally, without major conflict, the way most people in their 20s grow.) These women already possess wisdom AND have the confidence to use it. I love that there is no "comeuppance" for a summer spent partying, just movement toward the next phase. I love that Granados refused to incorporate a "Me Too" conflict just to be timely.
I am having trouble finding the quote but there is a passage where Isa describes people as wanting women around for the luxuriousness and beauty they bring, then become angry at them later for those exact qualities. I'm definitely not doing it justice; it is a perfect pearl for this book. Wish I knew who I could recommend this to because I WANT to recommend it.

Fun. Glamorous and Grimy. Portrays a carefree outlook of being 22 and frivolous in NYC. Spending money on champagne over rent, no direction but no real desire for any. A fizzy and forgettable story, in a great way.

Five golden stars. I will read anything Marlowe Granados writes. This book is the feeling of being at a glamorous party and trying to stay as long as possible because you’re broke and can’t go home. I recognised so much of Life in this novel, especially the micro aggressions of racism, codependent female friendships and trying hard to have a Good Time despite capitalism. Loved it
