Grady Hendrix gets me EVERY TIME. There's a point about a quarter into all his books where I'm so bored, or fed up with the MC, or irritated about the plot, etc. that I'm ready to just walk away. Then there's a piece of writing that is so well done and enthralling that you couldn't put the book down if you tried. There are actually a couple of these moments in Horrorstör that just suck you in and make the actual plot of the book take a backseat for a while.

I am slowly working my way through Grady’s entire bibliography and this is definitely my favorite or second favorite. My Best Friend’s Exorcism is still my favorite but it was also my first. The design of this book delivers on what it implies. Retail is hell and Hendrix takes us there. If you’ve ever had a soul sucking job and thought your store is haunted this book is for you.

Fun and lighthearted horror / gore. Excellent set design. It's an easy read and clever idea, so any shortcomings are also easy to gloss over.
