This was such a fun concept, and since uni is kicking my ass I sorta needed something quick and impactful. This deffo delivered. Loved the criticism of capitalism, loved Amy (which is rare for me to live main characters but Hendrix has always managed it so far), and loved the horror aspects.

I only wish we got more world building.
I’m assuming Orsk is more involved than we think. We assume its only the Ohio store affected since the prison was built there before it, but then we see that someone has gone missing from the New York location? And I sort of assumed it wasn’t the same ghosts since beehive was still under Planet Baby but idk. Considering its a criticism of capitalism, would make sense if Orsk was involved, especially with how they react.
Still a really fun story, but would love a sequel lol

I got this book without knowing anything about it except that it looked like an IKEA catalog! I thought the supernatural elements were well thought-out and drew on horror tropes that are popular for a reason. And I love how Grady Hendrix writes gore!!! Amy’s (and Basil’s!) character development was a highlight for me and I thought she was a perfect horror lead. Also, always a fan of a creative format for a novel so major points for the illustrations and product descriptions as well!

I honestly found this more amusing than horrifying, but I suppose I won't know the full impact of this book until my next Ikea trip. I wanted to read it physically because of the concept and formatting, and I think that was the right decision since it lends an extra humorous dimension to the project. The paperback truly resembles an Ikea catalogue, including product images and descriptions. The further you get in the story, the more unhinged the furniture becomes.

Not that I'm a horror connoisseur, but I think the horror elements were fairly standard, as were the characters, but I did like Basil with his follow-the-manual attitude, and Ruth Anne, who was very no-nonsense, but still managed to make me laugh. I also liked the way it ended, and overall had a good time.

The idea and design of this book is so cool but the writing is lacking. The middle of the book drags on and the ending well...
can you say to be continued? Great chance for an enemies to lovers storyline just  squandered!
And of course more rats.
